EEXPERIENCE OF IMPORTED COAL BURNING IN THE BOILERS OF THERMAL POWER PLANTS AND COGENERATION PLANTS

Abstract

In the article the segment of low-reactive coals on the world market is considered and it is shown that the main potential suppliers of these coal types can only be South Africa and Kuznetsk basin of Russia. Semi-anthracites from these fields have high ash fusibility temperatures, which creates problems for the organization of sustainable liquid slag removal in thermal power plant boilers. An additional problem for the cogeneration plants boilers designed for burning anthracite was the need to adapt their coal-pulverizing systems to the increased volatile yield of semi-anthracite. To solve these problems, technical solutions have been developed to ensure the safe operation of coal-pulverization systems, a methods have been developed of thermal calculation of boilers’ furnaces and numerical studies have been performed to assess the required level of calorific value of coal and the excess air ratio to provide the necessary temperatures at the bottom of the furnace for liquid slag removal, the lack of screens slagging and overheating of the furnace. The progress and results are given of tests carried out with the participation of Coal energy technology institute, at the boilers of Zmievska and Tripilska TPPs (South Africa semi-anthracite), Darnitska, Chernigivska and Sumska HPP (Kuznetsk semi-anthracite), which ensured that the power plants pass the winter season of 2014–2015. Based on these results, the eligibility criteria are suggested of imported coal for burning in boilers of TPPs and cogeneration plants in Ukraine practically used in awarding contracts.
